Soul Train Tribute Party after the BRC Tribute to Don Cornelius Concert

The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, returning to BAM as part of DanceAfrica 2012 for a tribute to late Soul Train guru Don Cornelius and performing songs by The Whispers, Shalamar, Lakeside, Dynasty, Babyface, Midnight Star, Carrie Lucas, and other artists from the Solar (formerly Soul Train) Records catalog. As an added bonus, a dance party follows, with DJ Idlemind spinning Soul Train classics well into the wee hours.

DJ Job FeedbackArrived about 1PM. Security check was smooth. Caterer and I were only ones there at that time. Building opened about 1:15p. Load in was smooth. I had extra time to route all wires and hide them. event was a little behind schedule, but I got it back on track.. (there were about 4 extra speeches) there was a good amount of dancing... someone asked for the electric slide and I told them it was on the DNP list.. and they said the bride was fine with it... I looked over and got a nod from her and played it.. and it turns out she did not want it.. so I quickly mixed out of it.. 

event ended well.. bride and groom gave me a hug.. as well as some of the guests..

DJ Job FeedbackArrived 2 hours early. Restaurant was setting up. Manager did not know where I was to set up. 2nd manager arrived and said she "thinks" I'm upstairs. I setup and soundchecked by 300p. For some reason, my wireless mic was giving interference and I switched to the wired. I was set up on one side of the restaurant on the second level balcony, overlooking the first level (cleared to be the dancefloor) Guests were seated on the third level and on the opposite side of the second level. I could not see or hear anything from the guest areas. I walked all areas to make sure the music could be heard. The first level sound was normal. The third level sound was passable. The opposite side second level was faint. The mixer was in the red most of the time.

The couple arrived about an hour late. Dinner was held until then. at 8:15, the Bride and Groom came to me to ask about more time. I gave them the policy ($XXX/hr) and the Bride was about to reach into her purse. The Groom stopped her and said, "That steak you just ate was about $120, how about we call it even?" I saw the horrified look on the Brides face, so instead of just walking out, I told him, I'm not in a position to baragin. He walked away, and she gave the ok. at the end of the hour, when I approached her, she said to charge her card. I shouldn't have been surprised, during the cake cutting, he had her in a headlock trying to smash the cake in her face; until she kidney punched him. That's Amoré.
